Oh dude. Okay, so since I have no school today, it's 5:00 and I'm still in my pajamas. WHATEVER. What's really exciting is that I just saw this movie from 1999 called Mystery Men and it is AMAZING. Seriously. According to an IMDB account, it came out the same weekend as "The Sixth Sense" and "Dick", so obviously 1999 was the only year to go see movies.

I have a feeling that MM already has a huge cult following, but I had no idea about it. It has a bunch of amazing actors in it, like Ben Stiller, William H.Macy and Janeane Garofalo (I think I seriously have a girl-crush on this actress. She's amazing, but I can never quite remember the other movies I've seen her in.) But wait, the wonders of IMDB! She was in Romy and Michele's and 200 Cigarettes (I love that movie. And not only because Paul Rudd is in it). Oh, and Dogma, which I haven't seen...YET!

Okay, so I'm just super-excited. Sometimes I get this way after I see a movie that I'm completely in love with. Also, I'm probably on a sugar-high. WHATEVER! It's amazing! You have to go see it! EEEEEEE.

P.S. SUPERNATURAL!

At a local bowling alley, they had a little shop with fancy bowling balls, and one had a skull inside like Janine Garafalo's from that movie.

Dogma is cool. Have you seen the other View Askew movies? You should see those first.

That's awesome.

That's my plan. I've seen Clerks, and all the other movies in order of release are on my Netflix. Of course, I have a bunch of different movie serials (is there any other way to call it?) on my Netflix, so it'll probably take me 15 years to get through it all..

I have never seen Mystery Men (though I have a friend who keeps pushing me to.) but I have seen Dogma and highly recommend you see it too! I was just about to say, "You know it's good.. I actually went to the theaters to see it!!" then I realized I did not. What I saw in the theater was 'Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back." In hindsight, I'd rather have seen "Dogma".

I do plan to see it (see: YET) but it just has to pop up on my Netflix list. I've had His Girl Friday for about two months now, but I'm in the middle of watching it right now, and next is...The Magnificent Seven. I added that the day before the SPN premiere aired *faceplant* The premiere was of the same title, and also has one of the actors frequently referenced in the show. The next NON-FANDOM based movie is An American in Paris.

I saw you "YET", but just wanted to make sure that it is imperative that you do, you know, actually see it. That is all I am saying. Though, looking at the time it has taken you to get around to seeing "His Girl Friday", I place your Estimated Dogma Watching Date to be somewhere in the year 2015.

Well...yeah. But I just finished His Girl Friday! And it's a new quarter, so my grades aren't in a pit anymore!

I usually go through movies really quickly, it's just that this one took a long time.

Also? SEE MYSTERY MEN. IT'S THE BEST.EVER.

Oh, yeah, I forgot (how fitting, right) I don't know about the chances of me actually watching Mystery Men. It has the twin non-distinctions of being both kind of old (like, not so old it's "classic", but so old it's like "ehh, if I haven't seen it yet...") and being one of those extra-goofy kind of comedies.

Date: 2007-11-02 02:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
It's more comedic dialogue than anything else.

"If you love him so much, why don't you marry him?"
"Why don't you?"
"Why don't YOU?!"
"Why don't YOU?!?"

..It's all in the delivery. The characters are fantastic, believe me. This girl has her dead fathers skull inserted into a bowling ball. It's amazing.

Now I know you're not crappin' on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Because that would just be inappropriate. I'm sure you only meant that Dogma is probably the better movie of the two. But, come on, Affleck's thoughts on Phantoms and Mirimax, Eliza Dushku in leather pants (okay, that one might just be me), Will Ferrel, the freakin' orangutan? Not to mention the fact that the movie is basically a giant inside joke for everyone's who's watched these movies! Oh, which reminds me Bean, you probably want to watch JaSBSB after you've seen all the others or you might get a bit lost. But this movie is one big giant ball of win. I will hear no words to the contrary.

Thus ends today's rant. That is all.

From: [identity profile] eevilalice.livejournal.com
Man, you and my brother! He bugged me FOR YEARS to see JaSBSB. I'll have to give it another shot because I wasn't crazy about it (and, yes, I have seen the Kevin Smith ouvre, except for Clerks II).

As long as it was released after all the other ones (which I assume it was), I'll watch it after all the other ones.

That it was; only Clerks II came later. This strategy will serve you well.

I've been meaning to see Clerks II. I liked Rosario Dawson, then didn't, and then did again. I'm pretty sure Clerks II would decide for me. I guess I'll have to get through everything else first, thought,

I have a similar Rosario Dawson rollercoaster (HA! Just picture it!). Liked her in Shattered Glass (though she's not in it a whole lot) and LOVED her in Tarantino's half of Grindhouse, Death Proof.

Date: 2007-11-02 07:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
I never saw Death Proof. It looked like campy fun, but then it also looked like it was a gore-fest, so I wasn't really interested. There was a whole Rolling Stones article about that movie, though.

Date: 2007-11-02 08:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eevilalice.livejournal.com
Death Proof isn't a gore fest really (that was Planet Terror), although there's one pretty gruesome scene. It's more like a thriller and chase movie, with lots of chicks hanging out talking. Anyway, I dig it lots.

Date: 2007-11-03 10:41 pm (UTC)

Well..okay. I mean, I can try it at least. There's no harm unless it scars me for life, right?

Hey now, I am not, at all, crappin' on "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"...well, I wasn't in the above comment. I was just saying that, in the grand scheme of things, Dogma >>>Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Of course, you argument was in no way helped by the inclusion of Will "Wait. He's supposed to be funny, isn't he?!" Ferrell. I second the suggestion that you watch it after everything else. That is the only way to go. (Also, if I were to crap on any movie in the series, it would be "Chasing Amy"! Oh how I loathe it.)

Date: 2007-11-02 12:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] momar-mole.livejournal.com
Alright then. Actually, I pretty much agree with everything you've said here, except for the Will Ferrell part (also, I forgot to include Judd Nelson in my argument, which was a major oversight). But you are right: Dogma is much better. Still, my favorite was Mallrats, especially on DVD because of all the fantastic deleted scenes. And hear hear for the Chasing Amy disdain. I saw this film only once and enjoyed the first third of it but found the remainder lackluster at best. I've never understood why everyone loves it so much.

Date: 2007-11-02 12:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jimmiefearsylar.livejournal.com
Yes! Mallrats is the best! No one ever agrees with me on this most important of issues! I know I am supposed to say "Clerks" is the best.. but does Clerks have Brodie Bruce? That is a "no". Thus, it loses. Now I want to see"Mallrats" but I do not own it. Oddly enough, I do own "Clerks", "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back" and, of course, the super-deluxe version of "Dogma".

As for Will Ferrell, he is funny in small doses. I know this is true because I was amused by his not-so-Oscar-worthy portrayal of "Frank The Tank", yet whenever he is in the lead role, he can take an otherwise-hilarious movie and make it partially unwatchable. See: Anchorman.

Date: 2007-11-02 02:32 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
Okay, I see that you have seen Anchorman, but...still. I love his early movies. He's made some not-so-good ones (Kicking & Screaming) but Blades of Glory was pretty awesome.

I really like Clerks, but I enjoyed Mallrats too. I think I'd have to see them back to back in order to decide which one I liked more. I mean, Mallrats was pretty genius, but Clerks had Randal, so...win.

I will say that yes I have seen Anchorman, and direct you to the post above this one where I said : As for Will Ferrell, he is funny in small doses. I am 100% positive that this movie would be one of my all-time favorites if only there were a way to go in and digitally erase any trace of Will Ferrell from it.

"Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, yo!" *points to 37 in her name* Hell yeah.

Bean, I the logical start would be Clerks. But Chasing Amy is my favorite. If you ever believe you need to be schooled in Kevin Smith, please let me know. I will clear my schedule.

Oh my good goodness. Mystery Men came out eight years ago?! Why does it seem to me like the movie is two, maybe three years old? D'oh! This is serious fail! Excuse me--I am going to crawl under my covers and cry now.

Also, you really should see Dogma, but don't do it for Ms Garofalo. If you do, you're going to be seriously disappointd; she probably has about three minutes of screen time very early in the movie and then she's gone.

From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
No, I want to see Dogma anyway...maybe because of Ben Affleck? I wish he'd go back to doing good movies. But also because I've heard about a lot of sweet stuff in that movie and I've seen clips and all. It looks amazing. And I love how God is Alanis Morrisette.

Date: 2007-11-01 11:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] momar-mole.livejournal.com
Affleck is good in this, but--as usual--he is outclassed by Matt Damon. Also, you may have heard me say this before--because I can't keep track of myself--but Alanis's portrayal is the most convincing portrayal of God I've ever seen (she'd kick George Burns's ass, yo). Also Alan Rickman is very, very good in his role as Alanis's mouthpiece.

Date: 2007-11-01 11:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
Matt Damon is my hero. No questions. I wish he'd make better movies too, although Bourne wasn't bad. Okay..I wish he'd make MORE movies. And they'd better be good.

But..but..I LOVE George Burns. I remember that he was the Oracle in a movie spoof, but I don't remember him actually being God. But I probably have seen that movie. It does matter, George Burns rocks. So does Alanis, but I just adore George Burns. And Alan Rickman will always be that creepy guy from half the movies he's in.Also, Josie and the Pussycats. I think he's a great actor, but I just think of slime whenever I see him.

I'm not usually a fan of Ben Affleck, but if you haven't yet, you should also see Hollywoodland. I actively LIKE him in it. I'm also curious about his directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone.

BTW, I saw Mystery Men IN THE THEATRE when it came out! I think it was me, my mom and dad. That must have been why we saw that instead of The Sixth Sense, which is totally what my dad and I would have seen if left to our own devices. But I remember thinking MM was funny...haven't seen it since, though!

From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
Hollywoodland is the one about Superman? Or that other one? I can't remember. I think I had an interest in seeing them both, thought.

And I was nine when that came out (I knew about the Sixth Sense because everyone was talking about it), so I really wasn't aware of it's presence. But, hee! SPN mentioned The Sixth Sense so that's my second reference today! I remember that I WOULD NOT watch that movie, because I was such a wuss. No matter how many people told me it was good, I couldn't stand the scary movie factor. I wouldn't even watch Titanic for about six years because I was scared of getting depressed!

Date: 2007-11-02 03:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eevilalice.livejournal.com
Yeah, Hollywoodland is the one about George Reeves, TV's first Superman. But you totally don't have to care about Superman to enjoy it.

Also, let me just restate what so many others have...I CAN'T BELIEVE The Sixth Sense is as old as it is. I thought MM was waaaay older.

Date: 2007-11-02 07:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
Oooh yes. I don't think my love for Superman hurts, though. And I really like old Hollywood, so I know I wanted to see that movie!

Yeah, but think about it, Mischa Barton was a little girl in that movie. Ben Stiller almost looks the same. I wonder were Haley Joel Osmond wander off too. He was in a bunch of movies as a kid, and then he hasn't been in much else...

I would just like to echo every else's sentiments that, in every way, Matt Damon > Ben Affleck. Now, don't get me wrong, I am no Affleck hater, I think he's a pretty good actor, and does not deserve as much flack as he gets (as alice said either above or below me... I am not sure where this will end up...he really was excellent in "Hollywoodland".) but really, this was all about Matt Damon (and Alan Rickman and Chris Rock) You know, all of this talk of it has me itching to pop the DVD in. Hmmm...

Oooooor you could send it to me so I can see it! :P Jk. But yeah, I really like Matt Damon too. Have you seen Good Will Hunting? It's terrific.

Yeah, the really sad part is that, in my mind, Mystery Men seems like it came out after Finding Nemo. This is why I have fail.

I remember that movie. Wasn't Kel in it? lol

And ohmygod Dick is such a good movie. I love it so much. And so is the 6th sense. You're right, 1999 was such a good year for movies. lol

Date: 2007-11-02 02:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] barkinmad.livejournal.com
Why yes, yes he was. He had blonde hair! I was surprised that he'd made a movie, because he really hasn't done anything except for a KFC commercial lately.

Dick is amazing. It's just the best comedy ever. Do you think we'll have to wait until 2999 to get another good movie year?

Chasing Amy is my favorite as well! It slightly edges out Dogma.
