What's This I Hear About American Independence?

My Current Top 20 Beatles Songs

~Across the Universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy/
are drifting through my open mind/
possessing and caressing me.

~Something
Something in the way she knows/
And all I have to do is think of her./
Something in the things she shows me.

~If I Fell
So I hope you see that I/
Would love to love you.

~Because
Because the sky is blue/
it makes me cry.

~You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Everywhere people stare/
Each and every day/
I can see them laugh at me/
And I hear them say.
Hey you've got to hide your love away/
Hey you've got to hide your love away.

~She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Didn't anybody tell her?/
Didn't anybody see?/
Sunday's on the phone to Monday/
Tuesday's on the phone to me.

Note: I seriously considered cheating on this one by just including the whole last half of Abbey Road, because if anything deserves it, that whole segment does. But I if I HAD to choose one song from all of it, it would be this one.

~I Should Have Known Better
So I should have realized a lot of things before/
If this is love you've gotta give me more/
Give me more, hey hey hey, give me more.

~The Night Before
Were you telling lies, ah, the night before?/
Was I so unwise, ah, the night before?/
When I held you near you were so sincere/
Treat me like you did the night before.

~Hey Jude
So let it out and let it in, hey Jude, begin.

Note: Honestly, this was the HARDEST song to pick a specific line for. The entire song is just so wonderful. Well done, Sir McCartney, well done.

~I've Just Seen A Face
Had it been another day/
I might have looked the other way/
and I'd have never been to her/
but as it is I'll dream of her tonight.

~Think For Yourself
Do what you want to do/
Go where you're going to/
Think for yourself 'cause I won't be there with you.

~Love You To
A lifetime is so short/
A new one can't be bought/
And what you've got means such a lot to me.

~I'm Looking Through You
You're thinking of me, the same old way/
You were above me, but not today/
The only difference is you're down there/
I'm looking through you, and you're nowhere.

~For You Blue
Because you're sweet and lovely girl, I love you/
Because you're sweet and lovely girl, it's true/
I love you more than ever girl I do.

~Back in the USSR
Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out/
They leave the West behind./
Moscow girls make me scream and shout/
And Georgia's always on my mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mi-mind.

Note: I always follow this by singing "Georgia on my mind" with the stolen riff.

~Come Together
He bad production, he got walrus gumboot/
He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker/
He got feet down below his knee./
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease.

~Here Comes The Sun
Little Darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter/
Little Darling, it's been a year since it's been clear/
Here comes the sun, little darling, here comes the sun/
And I say/
It's alright.

~Do You Want To Know a Secret
Listen, do you want to know a secret?/
Do you promise you won't tell?

~Hey Bulldog
Some kind of solitude is measured out in you/
You think you know but you haven't got a clue/
You can talk to me/
You can talk to me/
You can talk to me/
If you're lonely, you can talk to me.

~Yesterday
Why she had to go/
I don't know, she wouldn't say/
I said something wrong/
Now I long for yesterday.

Runners Up Are: Dig a Pony, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, A Day in the Life, Blackbird, Dear Prudence, In My Life, You Never Give Me Your Number, And Your Bird Can Sing, The Word AND JUST ALL OF THEM, OKAY?

Funny story: This morning I was walking with my mom and I got her talking about her 20 favorites, and then I got home and started on my Dad on his. My dad was less successful but my mom wrote down her Top and now I'm making a mix CD. We overlap quite a bit which is funny since my dad's favorite is Fool On the Hill and that one barely registered to me. Also, my parents have a friend coming over tonight who is apparently way into the Beatles, so maybe I can get more of an interesting conversation out of him.

Okay, now I REALLY need a Beatles icon, but I don't want to give any of mine up D:

Would anyone be interested in Let It Be...Naked? I think it's the reason I have so many songs from that album up there. Never mind I uploaded it, and you all better damn enjoy it because it's fantastic.

A lot of my ideas in this post were stolen from [livejournal.com profile] bornbackwards. In fact, ALL of the ideas, from the Top 20 to the cute little note song link icons. Sorry Sheena that I'm such a dirty thief!

I was gonna do a post like this a while back when I was doing the Beatle thing, but I did not. And last week I considered doing it again, only this time with the Monkees instead of Beatles, and again... nothing. And now you have done it, and I may have to do it too (after I finish cleaning, that is).

Oh, and I am pretty sure Let It Be/Let It Be...Naked is/are my favorite Beatles album(s)! (Either that or The White Album, I go back and forth).

She Came in Through the Bathroom Window is the greatest song ever written ever ever ever amen.

Perhaps that's just imho. But I'm pretty sure it's fact.

I actually think I would die if I had to narrow my favourites down to 20, lmao. I love them all so much. :D

Have you heard 'Old Brown Shoe' off their Anthology 3 album? I adore that song so much. :D :D :D

(I need a Beatles icon too)

It is certainly up there. I just love the intro. so damn much. And the rest of the song. All of it, really.

It was really very hard for me. I had to look at everything and replace a couple of leave a few behind and it was actually quite traumatic. But that's because they're all awesome.

I actually just listened to it last night! It's not one that I'm very familiar with, but I do know it XD

My dad bought the Sgt. Pepper album a bit before I was born and he says that even though I was just a baby "She's Leaving Home" made him miss me as if I'd already grown up and left the nest. And although he was more of an Animals and Stones fan, growing up I used to play his copy of Meet The Beatles on my portable record player all the time.

Thank you for sharing.

"She's Leaving Home" always makes me feel like I'm missing someone. And I kind of grew up with Abbey Road and recently worked my way backward, so I guess we're from opposite ends? :D

Thanks!
