2019 Edit: Shia surprise! I don't even use listography anymore, but sporadically and thoroughly update https://letterboxd.com/kingairwick/ with thoughts and reviews. Most of the stuff I watch I keep track of manually now in my journal, but if you want to know what episodes I watched on April 2nd, 2016 I can definitely let you in on that. (I will also probably do an end of the year round up of completed seasons/movies.)

2017 Edit: Surprise, this is super old and out of date. I have some more lists here on listography, although my 2016 is missing because I lost my journal.

Hey, I'm not sure if I ever posted this on my journal. It's from a while ago, but kind of fun.

Title: Scranton, PA. 2008.
Author: [livejournal.com profile] barkinmad
Fandom: The Office/Second Doctor
Rating: PG
Character(s): The Office; Two, Jaime, Zoe
Spoilers for: Season Four of The Office
Notes: I’d like to thank the countless people who listened to me complain about how I signed up for yet ANOTHER fic exchange (I love these things, I do) and who laughed at my Michael jokes, even if I didn’t think they were funny. A special thank you goes out to Moose, although she’ll never read this, for spending an hour and a half on the phone with me talking and scheming about two shows she knows almost nothing about.

Guess I owe you a couple of things, huh?

Day 2
Well, I just wrote about Clueless for a paper, so I'm probably going to have to watch that tonight and quote everything line by line, but I'm going to go with Moulin Rouge anyway. It really just made me realize that all that things I imagined I could do with movies could really be done. And it has an awesome soundtrack to boot.

Day 3
Yeah, this is a little hard. Glee is my new favorite, but it's probably not going to be in my all-time tops unless the rest of the season and every season after is going to be as awesome as it has been. Supernatural is a favorite, but I'm a little behind (haven't seen anything after hiatus) and although I love it, it doesn't get me uber-excited every time I watch it anymore. Gilmore Girls is gone, Primeval is fun but not my favorite, Fringe I'm just getting started on, so I guess I'm going to have to go with Doctor Who. It's a great show (probably not the best ever, but damned if I'll ever concede that to my friends), and I'm happy and content every time I watch it. I was getting a little old of RTD antics, but hopefully this new season will be so much awesome I'll forget about the bad things.

Day 4
For much of my life it was Harry Potter. Now I'm thinking it's On The Road, by Jack Kerouac, not because of re-readability or anything, or that is fills me with happy feelings, but it really changed my perspective about life and a lot of things. It affected my philosophy in what I think is a positive way, even though the "characters" are clearly batshit insane.

Day 5
"I am two fools, I know
For loving, and for saying so,"
-John Donne

Day 6
I just counted the number of DVDs in my room: 56. Number of box sets: 16. I recently borrowed The Graveyard Book from my friend, even though I'm already reading Can't Buy Me Love (still not done, less than a hundred pages to go), The Magicians (still), all my reading for class and a bunch of really long Harry/Draco fics that my friend gave to me. I've also decided that I'm going to start writing a really bad gumshoe novel, so if you guys want me to post sections of that I might oblige.
barkinmad: (The Monkees)
This is an interesting story about how I'm totally insane.

Recently, I discovered.... )

P.S. I'm taking a German film class and there are a bunch of people I'm friends with taking it with me. There are six of us and our collective identities include: German history nerds, culture whores/film enthusiasts, Jewish or about-to-be Jewish people, snarky commenters. There is quite a bit of overlap and we all sat in a little group at the back of the class. We watched a movie tonight that dealt with a refugee WWII Jewish family. I'm pretty sure everyone else in the class hated us.

P.S.S. REG! REGINALD FAIRFIELD!
Still creeps into my mind now and then, even today.

ETA: Oh great. Episode 11 of Middleman is apparently infested with OSDW references, so now I have to watch it.

ETA 2: I've decided. I'm not crazy about this show as a college student, but I'm forcing my kids to watch it.
barkinmad: (Fresh Prince of Gallifrey)
So....the Ood are not original characters. In the LEAST BIT OF SENSE. Because the Vox? Totally pwn them. They even have those creepy silver mouths pasted on their faces instead of making me think about Cthulu all the time.

In Conclusion: THE IMPOSSIBLE PLANET IS THE SAME FUCKING EPISODE AS THE ROBOTS OF DEATH. MOVE ON, RTD.
barkinmad: (Adam Ranger)
What if I made Ramen with Sprite? Not that I would. Of course, never. But...it nags.

Off to watch Tara (MORE ANDY!), then possible OSDW or Bambi or Heathers. Whichever one works the best with John Donne.
barkinmad: (On Crack)
Goodbyeeeeee Sarah Jane! I really loved you. Especially in the last few episodes. Why does that always happen? The characters become exactly who I wanted them to be in the last few episodes.

"Are we dead?"
...
"No."
"Are you sure?"
...
"Yes."

The Andy Pandy outfit made her look like she was five, but that's okay because she's adorable anyway.

I can't tell whether I liked this episode or not. It seemed alright, and had some good writing, but the plot seemed kind of...haywire. Like it didn't have a strong story that stuck together from beginning to end.

How did Sarah get her own K9? And would this be a good place to start watching SJA?

The next time I see you you'll be duking it out with Rose.

ON TO LEELA. AND THEN ROMANA!!!

And this is the second night in a row that I haven't written in my ten-year journal. I should get on that.

Re-Watching The Three Doctors )
barkinmad: (Tie Me Up)
I haven't heard anything but good vibes from people on my flish about the new Doctor. I won't say it out loud or anything since I'm too lazy to cut and I don't want to spoil anyone (which, why are you on the internet? There's a YEAR before he becomes the eleventh, you think you're going to avoid that information until 2010? Whatever. I'm totally a spoilerphobe, so I know where you're coming from). But basically, I'm willing to give this guy a chance, simply because I had to give the same chance to every Doctor I've seen so far. I gave Eccleston a chance, and now thanks to him I'm totally enraptured with Troughton. And yes, I'm probably going to laugh my ass off about his hair and how "emo" he looks, or whatever, but that's all part of the joy of the show. It's what CAPS are for! This guy might not be our favorite doctor (or maybe he will be, who the hell knows?) but I believe that the guys in charge know what they're doing, and from clips he looks like he can totally pull it off.

I know I'm pretty much just reiterating everything everyone on my flish has already said, but I felt like I needed to say it too.

Now, where can I find all these icons everyone already has?

Really?

Dear Doctor Who,

This is about the fourth or fifth time I've tried to download the last part of Androids of Invasion. I understand that the internet is incredibly slow here, but I REALLY want that last part. Could you make sure that gets done for me? Thanks.

Love,
Barky

P.S. WHY IS HARRY LEAVING?!?!?!

My mom was doing the crossword, and the clue was "Highland musician". I yell out "PIPER!" but she had already gotten it D:

In related news, I got "The Mind Robber" on DVD from Netflix today to get access to all the special features. I couldn't really watch the entire Frazer Hines interview because I would have been spoiled for the Five and the Two Doctors, but of what I saw I thought it was pretty good. I actually don't think the commentary is that great, I think it was better for The Seeds of Death, but that's mainly because I'm in it for the giggles. I do enjoy it enough when they talk about how they filmed it and everything, so it was good for that. A lot of it seems to be the same stories over and over again. IDK, I don't want to complain, because it's all great.

I'm trying to learn guitar (or at least learn a couple of Mraz songs) but all the sheet music I find requires money! Phooey. I'm all for supporting the artists and all, but I want my songs! I hate not having a credit card.

At least it's only one this year (which is exactly the amount I did last year, although I signed up for three).

In other news, I feel like someone stuck cotton balls down my throat, up my nose and in my head. Stupid allergies.
barkinmad: (Tardis)
Methinks there is someone who is a fan of the TARDIS.

HE'S GONE D: D: D: D: D:

Season 6B better have happened!!! I can't wait until The Two Doctors, The Three Doctors, and then The Five Doctors, although apparently he's only in two of them. WHATEVER. I WANT HIM BACK.

OH GOD. THE NEW CREDITS. IT'S LIKE LOOKING INTO A LAVA LAMP.

Cookie: LOL, what is that?
Beanie: Peter
Cookie: ROFL
Cookie: WHY IS HE WEARING A DRESS?
Beanie: IT'S HIS OVERCOAT OF EMO
Cookie: WHY IS HE BIGGER THAN THE CAR?
Beanie: BECAUSE HE'S LARGER THAN LIFE

Final Product

I fell asleep in bed with my clothes on yesterday. As a result, I had to do my English questions this morning. And he didn't even collect them (fair enough, considering that I got most of them wrong despite having read the majority of the section).

I'm almost done with The War Games. It's making me sad, I'm not sure I'm ready to meet the new doctor. Troughton has grown on me in a way that Hartnell never did (I'm not sure Hartnell ever grew on me at all, I've never been able to see the grandpa comparison). So goodbye to Jamie AND to the Second Doctor? Bleeecch.

Jamie - Dashboard Confessional

One of these days I'm going to post the CD mix I made for Beloved, but that means I'd have to upload all the songs.

I should probably watch Mysterious Skin before I go to Beloit for the weekend. More Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whoo!

I DON'T abbreviate everything, right? [livejournal.com profile] squeegee_burble has it all wrong. In relation, it's really cool to type when your head is sideways. It just shines a whole new light on the experience.

When I go to a Jason Mraz concert, and if he asks what song he should play next? I'm going to yell out "Little You and I Both!"; and if people stare at me like I'm retarded because I don't know they're two separate songs? I'll just tell them that I like hearing them back to back. Because I do.

As long as the post is being made, I'm going to pimp out my Script Frenzy work again. You know, the TV pilot I'm writing over at [livejournal.com profile] sitrow. I made it partly friends only, but ya'll know I'm easy, so it shouldn't be too hard to get a pass inside.
