Great lj-purge? Users and communities deleted? What's going on?

I get sick for one day and this is what happens *sigh*.

So obviously since I'm sick I didn't go to school today (I felt like puking for the majority of yesterday and now I have a killer headache. I also don't think my ears are ever going to work again.) I have way too much shit due tomorrow, so maybe I won't go to school again. I CANNOT do my IB Math Internal Assessment in one night when I can barely focus because my brain is going all explodey.

And serious, someone? Please explain this?

LJ was pressured by some other... um, company, thing, business, organization (SOMETHING) to crack down on communities that had keywords such as incest, underage, child pornography or whatever, and so lots of communities got deleted by them. However, along with the communities that SHOULD have been deleted, they also deleted a Harry Potter slash community (probably because some characters are legally underage to engage in sexual activities), some roleplaying journals, a community dedicated to reading and discussing the novel Lolita, and some LJ users who had names that referenced incest and the like. Now everyone's going crazy and yakking about how their free speech is being violated, blah blah. A lot of people were encouraged to remove stuff like incest and underage and rape from their interests.

I don't think it was cool of LJ to delete fannish communities like that, because the people who write incest and stuff most likely do not actually support or engage in actual incest (see all Wincest shippers in the SPN fandom), but I also think a lot of people are blowing it totally out of proportion. LJ always reserves the right to delete anything they want, sooo... this isn't really all that surprising. XD And it's just fandom. No one will die if their incestuous porn is deleted from LJ. Fandom will still go on.

XD I am so, so sick of hearing people get on their soapboxes about how LJ IS EVOL!!!111111111@!@ Their methods are a little strange, but I think it's good that they're getting rid of the REAL child pornography communities and stuff, because that is sick. Too bad fandom gets caught in the middle. OH WELL. *does not care much*

So I pretty much completely agree with you (go figure) because it does sound like things are being blown out of proportion. When I was reading my f-list, I half expected to get my account deleted (one of my friends is called in strikethrough07). I wasn't sure if it was specifically SPN or everything or I don't know what, so thanks for clearing that up! Also, thanks for the link XD

It's okay, I'm super bored too. I'm actually really dying to write some fic (I feel like I haven't contributed to fandom much lately) but I can't seem to find a story that's crazy enough that I can write without thinking too much.

Because thinking makes my brain hurty.

I want to write fic too! But I always have these ideas that sound great in my head and then I'll start writing them and they're just horrible and never get finished. I have a grand total of one fic to my name in the SPN fandom. You have more. You are better.

The only thing cool about GJ is you get lots more icon space. But the only way I'd move there is if EVERYONE on my f-list moved there, too. It's kind of... bland just the way it is.
